(Icarii being super-singers now, that I am bothered by. But then I'm a choir girl, so I'm hardly unbiased.)

I'm a trained musician and a keen (and, I'm told, talented!) singer, and Douglass clearly knew fucking nothing about music and song. It's REALLY annoying.

... Raum has been very sensible this chapter so far. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Raum is actually one of few characters to get out of this mess with his integrity (and dignity) generally intact. The worst thing he does is hang around providing unnecessary exposition just to belabour some point the author is trying to hammer into our skulls extra hard, usually in order to reinforce the very important message that AXIS IS SPESHUL.
