Why do they even need a leader anyway? And you're probably right on the sexism.

SCSF: I have no idea! They are only with five, after all, so making decisions should be something they could do together, even without meeting in person.

Plus if they were wearing proper snow gear with face covering hoods and furs and such there's no way people would even know Faraday was a girl unless they got right up close, let alone that she's Borneheld's fiancée. How do regular people know what she looks like in the first place anyway? This is worse than Paolini's ridiculous "everyone knows what Eragon/Roran look like and law enforcement always shows up in ten seconds flat" bullshit.

Well... the plan is to have her recognised by her ring, which comes with its own problems, as I noted above. Given that that ring is valuable and Timozel is an Axe-Wielder, they might well have got further north even if Timozel did not meet Gautier. Still, I highly doubt that Faraday would be recognised, too.

Not that we even know what their supposed powers actually do.

Neither do I... It seems that they have low-level magical abilities in just about everything, but Douglass has not confirmed that, which she could easily have done.

Wow, nobody else commented. Has the book's sheer inanity and offensiveness finally driven the others away?

Hmmm, I am not quite sure; they will most probably be back again (if not, I will probably try to lure them back, since I think they would love to see what will happen later on). I can hardly blame anyone for not bothering to comment, either; I could barely make it through this part myself! For the next part, I will probably try a different method to get through this chapter. Something more thorough will be for the redux, then.
