Wednesday, 16 October 2024 12:11 (UTC)Yes, that was really not thought through well. I'll put up a correction soon. (And done!)
Here's a (possibly) better version:
Axis finished looking through the bars of the cage and looked back at Hagen. "Was it necessary to keep these two alive for so long, Brother Hagen?"
"We just wished to know more about the activities of the Forbidden. This is the best source we have had in centuries!" Hagen said.
"You should have known they were not going to talk after a day. And yet you saw fit to keep two children with this Forbidden, Brother Hagen?" Hagen started to protest, but Axis cut him off. "It doesn't matter any more. May I have the keys?"
One of the lads threw them to him, and he deftly snatched them from the air. He opened the cell door and drew his sword. With four steps, he was standing over Raum. He waited for the man to attack, but when he did not, he cut the man's head off with a single stroke.
He looked at the child. It was very still, and when he bent down to hear her breathing, it was laboured and soft. So he did the best thing he knew to do and killed her too.
Then he left the cell and strode out of the cellar, ignoring the protests and clinging hands of Ogden and Veremund.
